"UNP Holds Basic Scout Leader Skills Course: Equipping Students with Leadership and Mentoring Skills"

Padang, June 24, 2024 – The Basic Scout Leader Skills Course (KMD) for students of the Department of Sports Education at the Faculty of Sports Science (FIK), Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), was officially opened today. The event held at the Sports Centre of Campus II FIK UNP was attended by Kak Afriadi, Deputy Chairperson of Organization and Membership (Orgakum) of the City Scout Council (Kwarcab) 09 Padang, who formally inaugurated the event.
At the opening ceremony, Dean of FIK UNP, Prof. Dr. Nurul Ihsan, M.Pd, was joined by Vice Dean I, Dr. Padli, M.Pd, and Vice Dean II, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sazeli Rifki, M.Pd. In his address, Prof. Dr. Nurul Ihsan expressed his pride in the initiative to conduct the Basic Scout Leader Skills Course (KMD). "This activity is crucial in equipping students with basic skills and knowledge in Scout leadership. We hope that through KMD, students can become competent and dedicated Scout leaders," he stated. Additionally, the Dean expressed his hope that this initiative would not stop at the basic level but would continue with an Advanced Scout Leader Skills Course (KML).

Kak Afriadi, in his address, emphasized the vital role of leaders in shaping the character and leadership spirit of Scout members. "By participating in this Basic Scout Leader Skills Course (KMD), you will gain valuable skills to become leaders capable of guiding and inspiring Scout members. We hope that you can apply the knowledge you acquire to the best of your abilities," said Kak Afriadi.
The Basic Scout Leader Skills Course (KMD) will take place over 7 days, from June 24 to June 30, 2024. During this period, participants will receive training on the history and philosophy of the Scout Movement, leadership skills, game techniques, and outdoor skills. Additionally, they will be trained to design and implement creative and innovative Scout activity programs.
One of the significant moments during the opening ceremony was the signing of a collaboration agreement between Kwarcab 09 Kota Padang and FIK UNP. This agreement was signed by Kak Afriadi and Prof. Dr. Nurul Ihsan, marking the beginning of closer collaboration between the two institutions in the development of Scout activities.
With the opening of the Basic Scout Leader Skills Course (KMD), it is hoped that students from the Department of Sports Education at FIK UNP will become competent Scout leaders who can positively contribute to the development of the Scout Movement in Padang city and its surroundings.
