Handball Practitioner Earns Doctorate, Develops Shooting Training Model for U-12 Basketball Academy

The academic and sports worlds have once again achieved a proud milestone with the success of Dr. Sari Mariati, S.Si., M.Pd., who successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in a closed examination held on February 12, 2026. This achievement marks a significant milestone in strengthening science-based sports coaching research, particularly in the development of young athletes.

In his dissertation titled "Development of a Shooting Training Model for U-12 Basketball Academies"Sari Mariati developed a systematically designed training model to improve the shooting skills of 12-year-old athletes. This research emphasizes an approach based on the child's motor development needs, training periodization principles, and the integration of technical, coordination, and performance consistency aspects.

The developed model not only focuses on improving shooting accuracy but also considers pedagogical and psychological aspects in coaching young athletes. Thus, the results of this research are expected to be a scientific reference for basketball coaches and academies in designing effective, safe, and growth-appropriate training programs for children.

In her academic process, Sari Mariati was supervised by Prof. Dr. Eri Barlian, MS., as her promoter and Prof. Dr. Sayuti Syahara, MS, AIFO, as her co-promoter. Both provided methodological guidance and strengthened the research substance, ensuring this dissertation meets academic standards and makes significant scientific contributions.

This success is not only a personal achievement but also enriches the body of knowledge in the field of sports coaching. The development of a research-based training model at an early age is in line with the needs of tiered and sustainable sports development, which is an important foundation for producing high-achieving athletes in the future.
