Socialization of Basic Tarung Derajat Techniques in Padang Pariaman: A Form of Community Service of FIK UNP based on SDG 4

Efforts to strengthen youth capacity through martial arts continue to be carried out by the academic community of the Faculty of Sports Science, Padang State University (FIK UNP). One of them is realized through Community Service activities in the form of Socialization of Basic Tarung Derajat Techniques which was held at the BWS Padang Pariaman Training Unit on Saturday, January 25, 2026.
This activity was initiated by Desi Purnama Sari, M.Pd, a lecturer of the Department of Training FIK UNP who is known to be active in the sport of Tarung Derajat martial arts and experienced as a national level referee. The socialization was attended by approximately 15 participants, with the support of two Tarung Derajat coaches, Ade Dwi Jayanto, S.T. and Zirwan, who also accompanied the training process and practice of basic techniques.
In this activity, participants were introduced to the basic techniques of Tarung Derajat which included basic attitudes, movement patterns, and safety principles in training. In addition to the technical aspects, Desi also emphasized the values of sportsmanship, discipline, mental toughness, and self-control which are the main characters in Tarung Derajat martial arts. This approach is expected to not only improve physical skills, but also form a positive character for participants.
The implementation of this socialization is a real form of dedication of FIK UNP lecturers in developing and expanding public understanding of national martial arts sports. Tarung Derajat is not only seen as an achievement sport, but also as a means of fostering the younger generation to have a healthy lifestyle, character, and competitiveness.
Furthermore, this activity is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through the promotion of healthy physical activity, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through educational transfer of sports knowledge and skills, as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through instilling the values of discipline, emotional control, and positive character building in youth.
Through this community service activity, FIK UNP hopes that Tarung Derajat will be more widely recognized and in demand by the community, especially the younger generation in Padang Pariaman, as a sport that not only builds achievement, but also contributes to the development of healthy, resilient and sustainable human beings.
